On the 4th Sunday of Advent we light the 4th and last candle which represents love.
"For God so loved.....that He gave......."
John 3:16
God so loved you. God so loved me. He gave.....His only Son became God incarnate. He became man and experienced all that man can experience as man.....because of love.
What kind of love is this?
Love unconditional; love that can barely be comprehended.
He came and dwelt among us...as one of us.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by Him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace."
John 1:1, 3-5, 14, 16
We light the 4th candle to remind us of that love.
This is the love that came down from the presence of the Father to dwell with us here
in this fallen world.
Emmanuel - God with us!
And this is the love that 33 years later would go to the cross in my place, in your place, to reconcile us to the Father.
This is the love that not only was born in a lowly stable, but is also born in our sin-stained,
foul hearts when invited.
"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"
Romans 8:32
That love is still reaching today....still pursuing.....still pouring out to you.
That love is still drawing us in.
Respond to His love today.
Oh, what love the Father has lavished onto us!!
