2nd Sunday of Advent - Peace

The 2nd Sunday of Advent we light the candle of Peace.  This represents the peace that enters into our lives when we experience the presence of Jesus.

"And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.  And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.  And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.  And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins."
Isaiah 11:1-5

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
John 14:27

"And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:7

Our world is not a very peaceful place right at the moment.  Not only are there problems with nations rising against other nations, but right here in our own nation, there is such a division politically that it may take years to heal, if ever.  The cost of living rises constantly, yet our paychecks don't.  Still so many people are out of work and many others struggle with various types of health issues, not to mention dealing with difficult health care plans.. Divorce wrecks our families and so many live selfishly for themselves and for the moment.

It would certainly seem peace is impossible to find.

But into all this darkness and hopelessness comes one who offers us hope and says to us that peace that passes all understanding can be ours!
How can this be?

Jesus - our Prince of Peace - has come!

He is our Hope!
He offers us Peace!

Jesus - our Messiah - the one we celebrate this season.
The one we prepare our hearts for.

He is the one who promises peace and He is the one who can deliver on
His promises - when we trust in Him.

We may not be able to find peace in our world, but we can find peace in Jesus.
His Presence brings us peace - the peace we long for.

He will not disappoint us!

Peace is a Person and that Person is Jesus!
