When I stop to ponder the "little boys" playing in the sandbox, I ponder also that there is really only one who is worthy to be trusted and I'm thankful I know Him.
When Jesus entered the scene in New Testament times, the disciples especially were so thankful that the Messiah had finally come to save them from Roman oppression. They did not understand that His kingdom was not of this earth. Since even before this time, people had sought an earthly King. They sought a "messiah" to save them in times of government oppression. They sought a man who would give them the kind of life they wanted. Scripture tells us that when God made Saul king, He was giving the people "a king after their own heart." And look at how that turned out!
Sadly, things are not much different in our world today. We still are looking for a man to change the direction of our country, to make our country great again,
Four years ago, we, as Christians were severely disappointed when our current president was re-elected. We couldn't understand why God had not answered our prayers. We pointed fingers and blamed each other that somehow we had not prayed enough to move the hand of God.
Fast forward to 2016 and we are now putting all our eggs in one basket again.
"But there is a God in heaven......"
Daniel 2:28a
Scripture tells us very clearly - "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." Romans 13:1
We need to place our trust in God, who is the only sovereign one. "There is no ruler or government or authority over God: God the most high is the absolute authority. Because God's throne of judgment is the highest governing power in all the heavens and earth, believers are exhorted to call upon the King of Heaven, who is able to change the course of nature or the heart of any person. El Elyon (the most high God) is the final authority in any matter."*
"The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turns it whithersoever he will."
Proverbs 21:1
"By me kings reign, and princes decree justice."
Proverbs 8:15
Proverbs 21:1
"By me kings reign, and princes decree justice."
Proverbs 8:15
God was, is, and always will be the most high sovereign God.
The word sovereign means "one that exercises supreme, permanent authority; self-governing; independent; having supreme rank or power; paramount."
That's our God, regardless of who wins or doesn't win an election. Regardless of who sits in the White House, God sits on the throne and we need to trust He knows best. God sees the big picture, He knows the end from the beginning.
I believe we need to be informed of the issues, understand the candidates position on the issues and vote by our conscience and the peace we feel in our spirit. But, we need to be careful we are not looking to a man to be the savior of our country.
I saw this quote on Facebook the other day:
"America will never be great again until we put God first."
And I would add - America will only be great if it is in God's plan for it to be.
As Christians I believe it is our responsibility to show forth the character of the God we serve, humbly praying for His will to be done and doing the best we can, by His Spirit, to unite in peace for God's purposes and plans for our country.
"Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him."
Daniel 2:20-22
